Reason #1,294 why I should stay away from Editorials & Opinions

From Lipstick Lines: Like Pouring Fuel on A Fire? by Linton Weeks and Ron Elving:
But it may be that in the 21st century, any male candidate running against any female candidate should avoid at all costs any mention of the word lipstick. Or any other word connoting a feminine grooming product or device. Or a hairstyle or item of gender-specific clothing.

To do otherwise is to risk accusations of sexism. And days of debate that distract voters from substantive issues.

Yes, because sexism is not a substantive issue.

This campaign is about sexism and racism, classism, and all the other -ism "distractions" from "substantive issues." Because they are still issues that need to be acknowledged and resolved, and I don't see the McCain camp treating them with anything but contempt. Choosing Sara Palin as a running mate is...well, as one of the Hillary Clinton supporters upset by the misogyny she encountered, I'm offended.

No, I'm beyond offended. I am angry.

Because now the very people who were attacking Clinton as a woman instead of as a potential presidential candidate are shocked and appalled by the sexist comments directed at Palin. Sorry, no go. You would still be launching the same attacks against Clinton if she were still in the campaign. Even though Palin does not deserve to be the target of sexist and misogynistic attacks, you do not get to act outraged if you are willing to employ such tactics against The Enemy. It's hypocritical, it's offensive, and it's an insult to the intelligence of the voting public.
